While immersed in the awe inspiring Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania, believed to be the birthplace of humanity, Biological Scientist Jené was confronted with the question ‘What do I value in life?’. This humbling experience was the catalyst for fulfilling a desire to use her passion for science to create high performance, clean skincare that would have a meaningful impact on the nature and communities she grew up in.
Born into a family of entrepreneurs, Jené always knew she would one day have a business to call her own. She grew up in South Africa and had a childhood surrounded by nature and intrepid travels in the African bush. It was this appreciation and wonder for the natural world that led her to pursue a Bachelors degree in Nanotechnology and Biological Chemistry before completing her Masters in Applied Science, majoring in Biotechnology and Bioethics.
After a 10-year clinical research career, from pre clinical laboratory research to leading oncology and dermatology global clinical trials, Jené was inspired by the paradigm shift happening in the beauty industry. The rise of consumer activism combined with importance of health, meant that brands were being forced to re evaluate their ethics, ingredient transparency and their impact on the world.
Jené embarked on a journey to research the planet’s most transformational botanicals from her home continent and around the globe, focusing on those that could be ethically and sustainably harvested while meaningfully supporting local farmers and giving back to rural communities.
