Traditionally used by Southern African communities to heal and soothe skin concerns, our Kigelia africana is extracted from the sausage-shaped fruit of the Kigelia africana tree which is organically grown and hand-picked by the local community in Malawi. Our Kigelia africana extract is Certified Organic by the Soil Association (UK). The organisation that manages this process uses the profits to either plant new Kigelia trees on the land or for other community enhancement projects.
“It was deduced that Kigelia africana possess an average antibacterial hormone relative to ciprofloxacin (standard). Moreover, the plant was confirmed to be rich in flavonoids and phenolic compounds, which are suspected to be responsible for the antibacterial as well as antioxidant potential of the plant.”
Asian Journal of Plant Science and Research 2015

“Kigelia africana oil is a bit of a miracle ingredient. It acts as a natural anti-inflammatory, and has anti-microbial and DNA repairing qualities. This all-organic oil from Luxe Botanics is also formulated to pack in high levels of antioxidants that repair sun damage, brown spots, redness and also protect your skin from free radicals.” – Diane Small, Contributor Eluxe Magazine
At Luxe Botanics we believe in giving back to the communities that harvest and processes our core botanicals. Through our partnership with Buy1Give1, when you purchase a Kigelia product you will help the Microloan Foundation Australia to invest in the future of an impoverished woman in Malawi and her family by providing her with a 1 day business training course. This course will help her to establish and maintain her business through giving her relevant financial literacy skills, ultimately enabling her to support her family and contribute to their livelihood.
